Sunday Comforts is a weekly feature on my blog where I answer questions about a book I already love and want to seek comfort in re-reading them. Here are the questions:
What do you feel like re-reading, or have re-read this week?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide (“A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have”) and a galaxy-full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox–the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod’s girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years
Is there any reason you want to re-read this/these book(s)?
This book is my go-to travel book, as it’s small and perfect for plane journeys. This is important because, as this goes up, I will probably on my way to France! Woo! Seriously though, the time I have to get up for my flight is ridiculous. Any time before 07:00 is too early. Thank the Pizza Lord for the ability to schedule posts! Anywho, whenever I know I am going to be travelling I start wanting to read this book, because I always read it when I travel.
What’s your favourite thing about this/these book(s)?
That’s easy: the humour. This book is absolutely hilarious, with typical English humour and deliberately ridiculous situations that are the reasons behind why this book is so amazing.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to re-read this book while I travel because I was an idiot and sent it ahead to France. I do have about twenty books to take over with me, so I definitely won’t be struggling for reading material.
If you’re currently re-reading something let me know in the comments, as I’m always curious to find out what you’re all up to.
